Why Non-Profits Need Websites

Some churches and non-profit groups feel they don't need a website, or that an outdated website is still ok. This article gives a few reasons why having a good website is important.

  • To Inform People
  • To Share with People
  • To Direct People
  • To Recieve Donations

The main reason we decided to make start Proselyte-Graphics was to provide Non-Profit Groups, Churches and Christian Groups with affordable web pages and hosting. As an example from our designer's own life, when he moved to a new town, one of the first ways he tried to learn about the available churches was through the Internet. This was mostly frustrating, because many churches in the town had no web presence. They were virtually invisible unless he stumbled across them on a walk or were told about them by an acquaintance. Still others had webpages that obviously hadn't been updated in five or more years, with outdated information and incorrect service times.

Many times, Non-profits seem to believe that the Internet is entirely optional, maybe even frivolous. But the trends in TV, Movie, Newspaper and Magazine viewership easily prove that Americans, especially young people, are more interested in getting their information and entertainment from the web. In this, we think every Church and Non-Profit Group which wishes to remain vibrant and relevant should consider their website as another form of outreach; just as important as the sign in front of the building.

A website can really reflect the attitude of your group. A neatly designed, sparse page with basic information sends a much more traditional message, while a color and image heavy site with lots to do gives the impression of a much more contemporary church or Christian group. Websites can be as simple as a listing of facts and service times, or a place where people can communicate and get to know each other between services. Forums allow church members to talk, share prayer requests, recipes, apartments for rent, or anything to which the site owner limits the topics. Messages, songs or sermons can be recorded and posted to the site for those that who cannot attend or who want to listen again. Pictures of groups meetings, VBS and Youth Groups help connect older members with younger members. Pictures and video also show a more real and personal view of yourself, other members, even missionaries or other outside groups associated with you.

But developing a website can be a hassle. There are concerns of design, maintenance, hosting, domains and content. That's where we hope we can help you. We have experience getting websites up and running for even the least tech-savvy groups and individuals. Contact us today to find out how we can help you.
