File Formats

A file's format is the way that data is arranged inside of the file. You can usually tell a file's format on a PC by looking at its extension (the last 2-3 letters after the . in the file name). Please note that just changing the extension doesn't change the file format, and it only make it harder to deal with the file.

Changing Formats

The best way to change a file's format is to open it up in a compatible program (usually the program you made/saved the file with) and save or export it in another format. Because of the many programs, file types and operating systems out there, we can only provide general advice:

  • Try looking through Save As... if the program has it. Many times this will offer other file formats
  • If your program offers Export as an command, this may very well have many options for compatible file formats
  • If there is no way you can change the format, Contact Us with the extension and we will let you know if we have a way to change.

Supported Formats

This is a list of the most common formats we support when making your site. We may support others, and it is possible to have a file which meets these criteria, but due to age or other circumstances, can't be opened. This is just a general guideline. Formats in Bold are prefered formats.
